History
The works marketed by ARS AG were created by Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel between 1931 and 1946 and are renowned for their characteristic simplicity and unmistakable reflection of human nature.

Born as Berta Hummel in 1909 in the market town of Massing in Lower Bavaria (Germany), the artist spent a happy childhood surrounded by her parents and five brothers and sisters.

After a 4-year course of study at the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts in Munich, Berta entered the Franciscan Convent at Siessen as a postulant in 1931. Upon taking the veils in 1933, she took the religious name of Maria Innocentia. Until her untimely death in 1946, her life was devoted to work and prayer in the Convent and her art.
